Garry's art work
|
Garry in his therties is a natural talented artist.
His originality and spontaneity
are shown even in the smallest things of life,
for example making some decoration
for a celebration. He is not thinking about art, he is art and
that makes all the difference. Garry as a patient was coming in this special care unit in Dublin where I was working.
Sometimes he was drawing the portrait of some patients and also nurses and he didn't like to be disturbed during his work.
He showed very acutely the inner difficulties, suffering or psychosis of the people.
He told me that he was traveling in the past
and working few months in France. When I saw him first in this unit he was under medication,
sleeping a lot in the snoozalen room. His feet was deeply cracked. I began to give him some back massages and asked the
unit administration to do something to heal the cracks of his heels.
I tried to give him confidence in his talent and I was thinking to find a way to organise an exhibition of his works,
but in this surroundings every project for independance of a patient was sinking like in the sand.
Garry was very imprevisible and
after one year he escaped from the hospital, it was not the first time and I did never see him again.
